Early in 2010, Tommy and Rosie the chihuahuas (held by Anna Booty) got a new companion in Bertie, an elderly and blind Jack Russell/Bassett mix that had been dumped on the side of the road to die near Shoebury in England.
Rescued and taken to a shelter, the evidence of abuse was all too evident, as he suffered from long neglected medical issues. After these needs were seen to, he was offered for adoption, and entered the home of Anna and Stanley Booty.
Anna, 59, said, "My heart just went out to him." He settled in quickly and showed great affection as well as relief to have humans to love. "He does bang into things, but it doesn't really affect him. He just backs up and trundles on."
