Pepe the chihuahua gazes upward at American expatriot author Gertrude Stein (above) standing in front of the very spot he'd hoped to pee on. This is in the gardens of the Villa at Bilignin in the summer of 1934, as also the photo below, of Gertrude relaxing at the Villa with Pepe sleeping at her neck, and her big standard poodle Basket between her legs.
