Above) This nervous little chihuahua was named Killer, rescued from his abandoned home in Waveland, Mississippi, by the Humane Society of Missouri Disaster Rescue Team, after Hurricane Katrina. In late August and September, a number of animal protection organizations set out through Mississippi and Louisiana towns and cities rescuing some 10,000 animals, reunited hundred of families with their pets, and finding new homes for thousands more.
