Decorated envelopes are de rigour among mail artists, & Lavona Surearts is one of the finest envelope decorators, sending out original wash paintings. I sometimes cut out her paintings to recycle in collage artworks of my own, but sometimes one of her Number Ten Envelope paintings just cries out to be saved forever, as in the case of this "rat with flower" sent to me 16 July 1994. In the return address corner using in lieu of her usual handle, she uses the name Friend O'Rats.
